U.S. Employment

Employment in the United States as an International F-1 Student is restricted. Employment is defined as “work performed in exchange for compensation.” Compensation can include money, room and board, or other significant benefits. Most employment opportunities require authorization. Working without authorization has serious consequences and can impact your ability to study, travel, or work in the U.S. throughout your life.

Please review the following pages and communicate with the International Student Services Department to determine which options you might be eligible for.

On-Campus Employment

You may accept on-campus employment at CIAM without prior approval from USCIS. However, you need approval from your DSO. CIAM offers a Non Federal Work Study Position on a limited basis. On-campus employment is limited to part-time (maximum 20 hours per week) when school is in session. During vacation and winter/spring breaks, you can work up to 40 hours.
