Campus Update: March 15th, 2021

March 15th, 2021

Dear CiAM Community,

It’s hard to believe that we are nearly halfway through the month of March and 10 weeks into the spring term. We hope that this message finds you safe and healthy.

We know that this has been a difficult year for many, and we have all been affected by the drastic day-to-day changes that this pandemic has caused. Virtual meetings have replaced in-person connections, and it’s easy to feel disconnected. Feelings of isolation, anxiety, and sadness are natural.

Additionally, during the pandemic, we have seen heightened bigotry perpetrated against certain identity groups. Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander individuals have been targeted, especially in recent weeks in the United States. We stand with our students, faculty, and staff, and all members of marginalized communities. CiAM is committed to antiracism, and this commitment requires that we all do our part to make this community welcoming and safe for all members. Furthermore, mental health is always an important priority for all members of our CiAM, and this priority will continue even once we return to “normal.”

As we begin to explore plans to return to in-person teaching, learning, and working, we understand that will also be an adjustment to our CiAM community. We look forward to connecting with you and supporting you in the months ahead.

We appreciate all that you do. Your engagement is important - now more than ever - and we are grateful to you.

Sincerely,

Juan Garcia
Provost/Vice President
